In summer 2016 one of our students, Keith Myers, was invited to participate with the BBC and work with their R&D team exploring production and process issues in filmmaking in 360 degrees. The project was facilitated by the lovely Digital Innovation team in the Shed at MMU.
Keith took on the position of editor for their VR content, specifically, looking at footage they had shot on a drone at Sissinghurst and working out some of the issues when it comes to making ‘the cut’ in VR.
VR poses a number of issues for filmmakers in terms of editing. Deciding when, how and where to make a cut in an embodied world is very different to conventional ‘flatty’ style film.
